A recent community initiative led by LCMC Health has provided critical relief to hundreds of households across the Greater New Orleans area. Through its Together for Good campaign held throughout September, the nonprofit health system successfully collected over 11,700 diapers and 623 pounds of food. These essential supplies reached 475 local families, helping to bridge gaps in basic necessities during a time when many are struggling to make ends meet.
The success of the drive relied on strategic partnerships with the Second Harvest Food Bank and the Junior League of New Orleans Diaper Bank. By setting up donation sites at all eight of its hospitals, LCMC Health turned medical facilities into hubs for community support. This effort aligned with both Hunger Action Month and National Diaper Need Awareness Week, highlighting the systemic challenges where roughly one in five local residents faces food insecurity and nearly half of families struggle to afford enough diapers for their children.
To wrap up the campaign, officials hosted a distribution event at the Broadmoor Food Pantry where employees handed out prepacked bags of groceries to residents. Beyond providing physical goods, the event integrated healthcare directly into the outreach process. In collaboration with Walgreens, staff offered flu vaccinations and blood pressure screenings, emphasizing that true wellness requires more than just clinical visits but also reliable access to nutrition and hygiene products.
Greg Feirn, CEO of LCMC Health, noted that health is shaped by factors far beyond what happens inside hospital walls. He explained that securing basics like food and diapers strengthens the overall well-being of the community’s families. For many parents, these donations do more than provide comfort; they remove barriers that often prevent them from attending work or school when childcare providers require a steady supply of diapers.
