Highmark Foundation and Buffalo Bills Foundation Unveil “Victory Table” to Expand Access to Healthy Food and Wellness Resources Across Western New York

2 min read

Residents across Western New York now have a new ally in the fight against food insecurity thanks to the launch of Victory Table. A collaborative effort between the Highmark Foundation and the Buffalo Bills Foundation, this mobile wellness initiative is designed to break down the physical and economic barriers that often prevent families from accessing nutritious meals. By taking healthy food, nutrition education, and vital community resources directly into the streets, the program aims to meet people exactly where they are rather than waiting for them to find help.

Michelle Roberts, executive director of the Buffalo Bills Foundation, noted that while the football team has a storied history of bringing people together, this project turns that social connection into tangible action. The goal is to ensure every resident feels they have a seat at the table when it comes to their own health and wellbeing. To ensure these resources reach those who need them most, the initiative is backed by data and research from the University at Buffalo Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab, allowing organizers to strategically deploy services based on real neighborhood needs.

The operational side of Victory Table will be handled year round by Strive, a local organization focused on community wellbeing. Community groups and schools can apply to host the mobile unit during neighborhood events or educational programs. During its debut event at the Resource Council of WNY, dozens of children and their parents were already benefiting from fresh meals and wellness activities, setting a precedent for what will eventually become a regional tour covering all eight counties of Western New York.

Kenya T. Boswell of the Highmark Foundation emphasized that better health outcomes begin with basic access to quality nutrition. By partnering with both athletic icons and academic experts, Victory Table represents a holistic approach to public health that blends immediate relief with long term education. As the mobile unit begins its journey across the region, officials hope it will serve as more than just a meal provider but as a catalyst for lasting health equity in every corner of Western New York.
